The General Medical Council's Actions
When Dr Jennifer Colman launched her website she said she would write a series of articles about the General Medical Council. In many ways she was uniquely placed to do this having been on both sides of the fence with the GMC.
For the past year Dr Colman has discovered with the Medical Protection Society’s help what really lies inside the GMC and how this medical regulatory body acts with others to destroy doctor’s careers.
The General Medical Council has managed to destroy Dr Colman’s medical career simply because it acted as a tool for others to extract retribution from Dr Colman, as a very junior doctor, because one person, another doctor, Dr Elizabeth Harris, formerly Anne Brown, whom Dr Colman did not know, wrote a scurrilous letter as a pre-emptive strike having breached Dr Colman’s employment terms, to the GMC. This began a chain of events, which were to catastrophically end Dr Colman’s career and create a number of totally false and damaging myths about Dr Colman which run to this present day.
Central to these myths are the actions taken by Lord Walton, a past president of the GMC in 1985 and 1986, and more recently by Dr Paul Diggory and his wife Miss Wendy Franks in 2000-2003. This is the story of these myths and the exposure of the ineptitude of the General Medical Council in handling malicious letters.
